Dentist Appreciation: What Do They Do For You?

We’ve all been told to schedule our regular visits to the dentist many, many times in our lives - but unless there’s an acute problem, why should we do it? Despite what many people’s fear of the dentist might imply, they actually work hard with you to avoid future problems, as well as having solutions to things happening in your mouth right now. With National Dentist Day on March 6th, we at Sonisk wanted to take a moment to remind ourselves why we should appreciate our dentists - and how to avoid seeing them more than twice a year! Read on to find out what your dentist can do for you…

Problem Prevention

Though many people only go to their dentists for problem solving, a large part of what dentists do is preventative, as they regularly check for signs of gum disease, dental decay, and mouth cancer, and do their best to catch them at their onset so that they can then advise on how to best proceed. Dentists will check for these as a matter of course, saving you uncertainty when looking at your own mouth.

Scale & Polish

The dental hygienist will give a professional cleaning, which helps to get rid of plaque and tartar buildup, making it easier for you to maintain your dental health through your regular oral hygiene routine. Professional cleanings also help to reduce staining, and gives you fresher breath!

Supporting Life Changes

Many of the choices that we make for our bodies have an impact on our oral health! For instance, changes in diet, such as trying a Keto diet or going vegan, can affect our vitamin and mineral intake and cause deficiencies which affect our dental health. However, informing your dentist of any dietary changes can help them to advise on which supplements to take to maintain your teeth. This is similarly true for pregnancy, which has its own, specialised oral health needs which your dentist can support. Your dentist will be able to advise on what’s best for your individual teeth based on life changes, setting you up for better oral health long term!

Help Your Dentist Help You

Appreciation for your dentist should only go so far - we want to be thankful for the help and advice they give at regularly scheduled appointments, whilst also helping ourselves to avoid any extra or emergency visits! The best way to ensure good oral health is to keep up a consistent oral hygiene routine: brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste is essential to keeping your teeth healthy and sparkling. Remember to continue this basic routine regardless of how busy you are - there’s no excuse not to brush! If you find that you’re always in a rush in the morning, rather than cutting out brushing, consider a good portable toothbrush, so you can brush your teeth wherever you are! Check out our range of Sonisk Pulse sonic travel toothbrushes for a stylish and discreet solution to brushing on the go!
