How Often To Change Your Electric Toothbrush Head?
When it comes to using an electric toothbrush, you don’t throw it out like manual toothbrushes. Therefore, it is important to replace the head of the toothbrush at least every three months. If the bristles of the head are clearly worn, frayed or damaged in some way, you can replace the toothbrush or the brush head earlier. At Sonisk, we have some tips on when you should change your toothbrush head and what to look out for…
Toothbrush bristles wear and degrade
Hundreds of bristles that are grouped together shape the brush head on a manual or electric toothbrush. Some bristles may be shorter, some may be thicker, some may be pointed, and some may be available in a number of colours. Nylon bristles are built to be used repeatedly and thousands of repetitive motions can withstand their construction. There comes a time, though, when those bristles fray, break or are no longer in the tight formation they once were.
Therefore, it is important to replace the toothbrush or brush head if the bristles are clearly worn or deformed earlier than 3 months. In most conditions, the toothbrush bristles will typically maintain their shape reasonably well up to about this 3 month mark.
However, prolonged usage will mean that the formation of the bristles are more likely to suffer as a result. Take a look at the toothbrush's bristles. Ask yourself, are they still moving and looking equally uniform in their direction? Does the bristle layout look identical to when it was new to the brush head? Then it's time to change whether the bristles are thinner, frayed or all over the place.
When to replace your toothbrush head
It can be difficult, though, to try to recall when you last altered your brush head. Ideally, when it is time to alter, you can mark it on the calendar or set a note, but not all of us can do that. At Sonisk, we recommend replacing our DuPontTM Tynex® Brush Heads every 6 weeks. That way, you can have great oral hygiene at home, or on the go.
Other reasons to change your toothbrush
It's a good idea to replace your toothbrush as well as the toothbrush of everyone else in your household if you or a family member has been ill. Viral and bacterial diseases such as strep throat are of particular concern and are a good reason for moving to a new brush head for your toothbrush.
At Sonisk, our toothbrushes have Antimicrobial Protection to stop the growth of microbes on the surface of the toothbrush. The Sonisk Pulse also comes in a neat cap which keeps your brush germ-free and ready to go!
